03 Feb Liposuction Without Surgery: What Are the Benefits of Vaser Lipo?

When someone thinks of liposuction, they often think of an aggressive, intense surgery with lots of recovery time. While that used to be the case with some traditional liposuction procedures, new techniques have changed the game for patients looking to eliminate unwanted fat.

One of the most sought after liposuction treatments due to its minimal downtime, safety and superior results, is ultrasound liposuction or Vaser® Liposuction, in which ultrasound waves are used to target and break down fat cells.

  1. Patients recover faster.

In traditional, suction-assisted liposuction, a small cannula is pushed and pulled through the fat layer in order to break up the fat cells. In Vaser® liposuction, a thin probe delivers ultrasound vibrations into the fatty tissue, dislodging fat cells, which are then removed via a suction cannula. The procedure is gentler on the body than traditional liposuction techniques, resulting in minimal bruising and a faster recovery time.

Vaser® liposuction in Long Beach at the Ulmer and Wu Dermatology office is an outpatient procedure, allowing patients to return to their daily lives more quickly — and with minimal bruising, they won’t feel as sore. Patients of traditional liposuction procedures can sometimes require six or more weeks of downtime before they are completely healed. With our technique of ultrasound liposuction, our Long Beach patients have required only about three weeks of recovery time.

  1. There is no need to “go under.”

While local anesthesia can be used with traditional liposuction procedures, the surgeon may not be able to be as “aggressive” as he or she would like as the patient is awake and aware of the procedure. Additionally, larger areas may not be able to be done under local anesthesia alone. Because Vaser® liposuction is far gentler, only local anesthesia — which is safer than general anesthesia — is required. Patients are awake and alert during the procedure, but relaxed and comfortable. Recovery time from general anesthesia is also generally longer than local anesthesia.

  1. Patients receive smoother, more natural results.

For patients of liposuction, before and after photos are sometimes the deciding factor. They want the most natural results possible — and with Vaser® liposuction, smooth results are often the norm. Traditional liposuction may sometimes result in dimpling or contour irregularities, and it can be more difficult to achieve smooth results in areas such as the “love handles” and the upper back.

Stubborn fat that won’t disappear no matter the diet or amount of exercise can be removed with traditional liposuction, but this procedure is sometimes considered too aggressive or invasive — or it just doesn’t achieve the smooth look the patient wants. With Vaser® liposuction, however, the body can be more easily shaped to achieve a natural contour without the long recovery time and discomfort.
