A safe procedure to eliminate under-eye puffiness and drooping eyelids

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a procedure to eliminate under-eye puffiness and drooping upper-eyelids. This is an in-office procedure performed under local anesthesia, which is safe and painless. Patients are consciously sedated using valium, demerol, or clonidine.

The eyelid surgery is performed through external excisions made along the natural skin lines of the eyelids or from the inside surface of the lower eyelids. The amount of tissue excised in blepharoplasty depends on the physician’s evaluation to achieve the best cosmetic result.

Upper eyelid surgery removes the excess skin that causes over-hanging eyelids and a tired expression. By excising the excess tissue along the anatomical lines, the upper eyelid will be revealed and eyes will appear larger and more alert.

Lower eyelid surgery improves the puffiness of the lower eyelid bags and will usually be accompanied by a chemical peel to the lower eyelid skin to reduce wrinkling; ultimately achieving a more youthful appearance.

This blepharoplasty procedure is safe and causes minimal scarring. Every attempt is made to make the patient comfortable while being alert and awake throughout the entire procedure. Mild swelling and bruising can ensue after the blepharoplasty procedure, which will persist approximately one week after the sutures have been removed.
